Dinah's Ultimate Showdown: Black Canary Faces Lady Shiva in 'Best of the Best' Series

A new chapter unfolds for Black Canary as she engages in a fierce battle to establish her superiority among the elite in an upcoming series crafted by Tom King, known for his work on Wonder Woman, alongside artist Ryan Sook. The DC universe boasts numerous highly skilled fighters, but Black Canary certainly ranks among the top contenders. Dinah Laurel Lance is highly regarded as one of the world's most proficient martial artists, even without considering her extraordinary abilities.

In this fresh series, titled Black Canary: Best of the Best, Dinah's martial prowess is about to face its ultimate test against a remarkable adversary—Lady Shiva, a peer in hand-to-hand combat. The first issue's cover art by Sook is complemented by variants from talented artists like David Nakayama, Chrissie Zullo, and Dan Hipp, promising an eye-catching visual experience.

While this intense confrontation will challenge everything Black Canary has learned, she won't be going into it alone. DC has revealed that Dinah will receive guidance from notable figures such as Batman, Wildcat, and her mother, the inaugural Black Canary, enhancing her skills further.

Tom King expressed his enthusiasm, mentioning that he has longed to tell this story for years. He can't wait for fans to witness the collaboration with Ryan, noting that his artistic style is a perfect fit for the narrative, ensuring readers will feel the intensity of every punch and kick from the very beginning all the way through to the conclusion.

Additionally, Otto Schmidt has illustrated a striking wraparound cover that showcases various incarnations of Black Canary throughout the DC Universe. Lady Shiva, first introduced in 1975's Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter #5 by Dennis O'Neil and Ric Estrada, is a notorious figure. Originally a deadly assassin, she has transitioned into a more complex anti-hero role, aiding Batman in his recovery after a major setback and supporting him against the League of Shadows. In an intriguing twist, Lady Shiva is also the mother of Batgirl Cassandra Cain, who is currently one of Dinah's allies in the Birds of Prey, solidifying her position as a formidable competitor in the story. 

Black Canary: Best of the Best will be available from DC on November 27, offering readers a thrilling experience as Dinah faces her greatest challenge yet.
