Google Gemini Enhances User Experience with Direct File Sharing on Android Devices

In a recent update, a new feature has been introduced for Gemini, Google's AI assistant on Android devices. This enhancement enables users to share files directly with the assistant through the Android share sheet, streamlining the process and eliminating the need for manual uploads. The change follows an update to the Gemini app that allows it to retain specific user information, such as interests and preferences.

Utilizing the Android Share Sheet with Gemini has become more straightforward. The new functionality is part of the Gemini app for Android version 1.0.686588308. Users can effortlessly attach files from any application by tapping the share icon and selecting Gemini from the available options.

This enhancement allows users to bypass the tedious task of locating files through the Gemini app's file picker, promoting quick analyses via direct uploads. Moreover, the system accommodates sharing up to ten files at a time for analysis, though there are certain restrictions related to file formats.

  1. Accepted formats include plain files in TXT, document files such as DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, and HWPX.
  2. It also supports coding files with extensions C, CPP, PY, JAVA, PHP, SQL, and HTML.
  3. Tabular data can be uploaded in CSV and TSV formats, while spreadsheet files can be in XLS and XLSX formats.
  4. Additionally, all files created in Google Docs and Sheets are compatible.

However, it's important to note that accessing this feature requires a Gemini Advanced plan, which has a monthly fee of Rs. 1,950 in India. This requirement was confirmed by the team at Gadgets 360 during their test of the new functionality in the app.
