Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is arguably the hottest release in the gaming world this month. While it’s scheduled for release on October 28, those who have preordered it can already preload it to save some time after the official launch. So, when can you preload the game, and which platforms support this at all?
So, the answer is: it depends on the platform. Those on Xbox can already pre-download the game, so when the moment comes, they only need to launch it and authorize. Well, so is the case now with PlayStation owners: the game became available for pre-download since October 20. It’s the hardest for those on PC: the game will only become available on October 26, at 10 AM PT. The access to the game will open on October 27, at 9PM PT.
It makes sense because, given how popular the game is, the massive wave of players will give the Activision servers some hard time. Preloading will help to disperse this data wave, and the servers will not be that busy on October 28, when the game officially becomes available. In addition, it will help the most eager players scratch their understandable itch.
The idea of preloading Modern Warfare II makes even more sense if you remember that Call of Duty games are usually enormous. There is no reason to suppose that the installment of 2022 will be smaller than others. The exact size of the game differs on different platforms. Say, on PS4 it’s about 61 GB, while on PlayStation 5 it exceeds 100 GB. For PC, it’s at least 125 GB, though requirements may vary.
Anyway, if you have pre-purchased the game, preloading it is a logical step. Are you one of those who didn’t wait for critics to respond and bought the new Call of Duty installment just for being a part of the beloved franchise? What do you expect of it? Have you already preloaded it? Tell us about your case in the comments!
